Briefing Item: Caloosahatchee Estuary Projects Update (Staff contact, Jennifer Leeds, ext. 6088)

On January 10, 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Executive Order 19-12 which called for greater protection of Florida’s environment and water quality. This briefing will cover projects the District is implementing to help the Caloosahatchee Estuary. Projects to be discussed include the Caloosahatchee (C-43) Reservoir and its associated water quality feasibility study, the BOMA project, and Lake Hicpochee restoration.

Award Contract for Matanzas Pass Preserve Boardwalk Replacement
Awards a contract to Bayshore Construction, Inc. to replace a portion of boardwalk, benches, bridges, pavilion and a kayak launch at the Matanzas Pass Preserve, in the amount of $900,470.80. The total estimated cost to design, permit and construction the improvements is $1,200,000.00. This project was planned and budgeted and funded with Tourist Development Taxes.
Approve Contract Change Order for Matanzas Pass Boardwalk Replacement and Kayak Launch
Revises the scope of work to be performed by Coastal Engineering Consultants to include Construction Engineering and Inspection Services for a new contract total of $141,250. The total estimated cost to design, permit and construct the improvements is $1,200,000 and is funded with Tourist Development Taxes. This project was planned and budgeted with improvements scheduled to be finished in FY2020.
Award Contract for Alva Boat Ramp Renovation
Awards a contract to Kelly Brothers in the amount of $495,371.95 to renovate the Alva Boat Ramp.   The renovations include widening the boat ramp from one lane to two, replacement of the boarding dock and parking lot improvements.  The boat ramp provides access to the Caloosahatchee River upstream of Franklin Locks for residents and visitors in eastern Lee County and was originally dedicated in 1990.   The project is 100% funded by boater registration fees.
