Scholarship Opportunities

The Marine Industries Association of Southwest Florida offers scholarships to immediate family of association members and their employees.  Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors or to students currently enrolled in a college or post-secondary trade or vocational school.

Scholarships are awarded each year in memory of two of the association's most active and respected members, Captain Ed Hansen and Tom Nichols.  Each year, the association board of directors will award these two named scholarships based upon the qualities of the applicants.

Additional scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

Scholarship Award:  

• Scholarship awards are $1,000.00 per award
• June 1^st of each year is the application deadline to be considered
• Award decisions will be made by the Marine Industries Association of Southwest Florida’s Board of Directors
• All applicants must meet eligibility and application requirements below to be considered for approval

Eligibility Requirements:

• Immediate family member (child, spouse) of a member business owner or employee in good standing of the Marine Industries Association of Southwest Florida 
• Within 4 years of high school graduation 
• Attending a college or post-secondary trade or vocational school
• GPA: 3.0 or higher on 4.0 scale

      *Students should provide their cumulative GPA from their most recently enrolled institution

Application Requirements:

• Fill out online scholarship application at www.miaswf.com/scholarship-opportunities
• Provide most recent transcript including letter grades and cumulative GPA
• *One letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor
• *Must provide a minimum 500 word essay detailing educational plans and future occupational goals

* Recommendation letter and Essay are no longer required for applicants whom received scholarship award in the previous year unless there has been a change in schools or major
